In the English speaking world German cars would have their names changed. Porsche is referred as Porsh. BMW is Beemer, Mercedes is Mercs and Audi is Ow-dee.

I first heard that one on the Rick Dees Top 40 show in the early 80's. It worked then because the character was always drunk and had slurred speech. I suspect the original source was probably European, perhaps even the comic OP has posted, and was actually making fun of some particular accent.
